Take a look at the applet.

You can choose from 2 different light sources, a point source or rod source.
What kind of lightsource do you think the sun is?
Select “show trace”.
Look at the different light sources.
Can you tell now if the sun is a point or a rod source?
Do you know now which one of the children is right?
Go back to the "Forum" and talk about what you have seen.
